Traffic Enforcers Went an Extra Mile

Excellent Job for the Two Traffic Enforcers in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan in Doing Service Beyond Limits. Roger Go and Jenriel Cheng are the two traffic enforcers in the rising city of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. They made a brave routine standing in the cluttered traffic while heavy rain is pouring or struck by the high intensity of heat. The traffic enforcers are headed by the Sector Commander of Brgy. Muzon, Mr. Jesan Idquila and the Executive Assistant IV/Head of CTM-SCOG of San Jose Del Monte, Roberto "Bobby" P. Esquivel under the supervision of Mayor Arthur B. Robes, Vice Mayor Efren Bartolome Jr., and Congresswoman Florida "Rida" P. Robes of the Local Government Unit of Bulacan.
Doing extraordinary service for a job will not be determined by the salary grade employees earn. This has been proved by these traffic enforcers that even if they receive low salary range, they have the patience to understand the rant of drivers encountering messy traffic everyday.

Rai Rai Ken: Spending Minutes in Japan

I've been into different Japanese restaurants and have tried some of their delectable kickshaws. Years ago when I lived in the metro I would always take out an order of sushi or a ramen or both so I have something to eat when I got into my apartment.

So today, I got an event to cover and waiting isn't my thing specially when I got hit by the arrows of starvation. So instead of waiting for the girls and standing like a security guard in the spa, I roam around the mall and got an eyeball in a Japanese restaurant called "Rai Rai Ken". I checked their menu and a waitress approached and offered me a meal for a soloist. A Ramen and a California Maki are perfect match for me so I accepted the suggested meal and secured a table. As I sit, I was served with Iced Tea (which I ordered too), water, spoon and fork, and chopsticks.

While waiting for my order, I made myself busy taking photos of the place. The lights are classy, it wasn't crowded, and I felt comfortable. I also noticed the chef wearing a traditional Japanese Yukata that made me feel like I'm in Japan. In just six minutes, the suffering of my hungry breadbasket would finally end. Fast service is an additional appeal for me.

It was served in a stately Japanese Lacquer tray which I want to take home (lol). Yeah! I just have that deep attraction with Japanese Platters and stuff. The meal comes with California Maki, Mini Ramen, and a bowl of coleslaw.

I took photos then decoupled the chopsticks and started eating. I picked up a pinch of wasabi, coated a part of sushi, dipped, then finally tasted the breeze of the land of the rising sun.

These 10 pieces California Maki are arranged horizontally symmetrical in a square plate like a straitened Great Wall of China. Each is topped with a mini hill of mayo. Every bite is a travelling flavor of grains and spices.

Then I took a sip of the hot soup of ramen with a duck spoon and it's a perfect match indeed. Every strand of noodles plus a bite of a tender pork is heaven. It's an overflowing falls of savory running down my throat.

Mixing the coleslaw with its dressing gives me excitement as its texture tells it's a fresh harvest from farm. And it really is. The crunchiness I felt and mouth-watering crisp of carrots and cabbage that blends in with the mayo is really satisfying. And that little amount of veggies in a saucer dressed with vinegar is similitude with Tagalog Atchara and I like the battling tastes of sweet, sour, and salty.

For the bill of Php 309.00, I've had a great time spending minutes in Japan. I felt really productive than waiting inside the spa (lol). I've used my time well and had a happy tummy.

We'll surely meet again!

Five Things I Have Learned and Valued Most During My Leadership

In one school year of service as the President of Student Council in my department, I have acquired so much learnings and I want to share these learnings to everyone who also aspire to be a leader.

1. Let the flower bloom.

Never force a flower to open its petals, you will never see the work of its pigments. The more you force a flower to bloom, the more you expose it to its demise. I have seen a flower bloom, it blooms amazingly. It spreads it's petals slowly as it sways in the wind of judgement. Many were shocked about the colors it possess. Many have suspected it. But very few understands it's waiting. Waiting for a butterfly to accept it's color. I will miss this flower who offered all its nectar to an unknown butterfly.

2. Don't sing with the rhythm all the time.

Sometimes, you might think that it's perfect singing with the rhythm. However, the worst feeling is to think that you're in the right track when your actually not. Learn to criticize the notes. Choose the best song. Sing what is best for your audience's ears. Never what is best for you alone.

3. Appreciate the goodness of strangers.

There are people who will lend their hands to help you, but very few will stay until the end of tomorrow. I have witnessed the goodness of strangers. Unexpectedly, I felt that I was loved. Thank you.

4. Learn to eat your hated food.

You should learn to eat the most unpleasant and bad tasting foods. If you did not, you will always vomit. Vomiting isn't good, especially when people sees you. Condition your stomach to accept all the food you intake unintentionally. I have eaten exotic foods which made me vomit. And I regret it. There are more of it just waiting to be served. Learn to eat it. Sometimes it's a blessing in disguise. Who knows, it might grow your abs.

5. Never tell yourself you lose, when you know you never get into the battle.

Expectations sometimes are your greatest opponent. You might felt you lose because you expect to be on top. Expect less and do more. Have the passion to serve and consider it your greatest consolation. You will always know if it is a playground or a battlefield. If it is a playground, then enjoy every single moment, cherish it, and keep it fresh forever. If it is a battlefield, then fight, do your best, and don't give up. You will only lose if you give up. If you didn't, your death will never conclude the victory of the other side, because you fought until the end.

1st Colonial: Bicol Twists and Delicacies

The taste of "lutong bahay" and bicol's local delicacies has always been my favorite. I am also into cooking and I manage to experiment my own blend of dishes which I will soon publish. Though I have that craving to try unique dishes in the world, I would always go back to glutton the authentic bicolano recipes.

I was hanging out with my sister and we've seen this restaurant called 1st Colonial based in SM Naga. This is an authentic fine dining bicol restaurant and serves variety of bicolano delicacies. This has been featured in a TV program because of its unique "sili ice cream".

So, we made a reservation and got a table instantly. I like the ambience. It wasn't so crowded. The colossal painting of Mt. Mayon hanging in the wall caught my attention too. The crew were accommodating and friendly. Attitude matters to me, so it was a good catch. We were served water and utensils while waiting for the order (10-20 minutes serving time). From then on, this has been our comfort zone whenever we need a break.
We both love seafoods so we tried the following dishes:

Sinigang na Hipon

Hot soup served in a nice bowl. It tastes really fresh like you've gone back to the sea. The serving is good for three persons but we devoured all of it. It's not so sour nor salty. Every sip gives me a soothing relief as if I am just eating at home.

Tinapa Rice

It is served in a pan which I find seemly ravishing. It has a smokey taste because of the tinapa (smoked fish). This is a bit comparable to the famous Chao Fan because you can eat this alone. It is topped with tinapa, salted egg, tomato, indian mango, and onion leeks. This serving is good for 3-4 persons so we had a take out (lol).

Grilled Mussels

It was served in a sizzling plate arranged symmetrically like a widely opened tail of peacock. It was topped with cheese, garlic, and onion leeks. It is tender, juicy, and fresh. The cheesy taste and garlic blends in with the mussel and every bite feels like an explosion of a thousand flavors inside my mouth. This is my favorite so far.

Sisig na Pusit

This one is a solo meal served with rice and kamote flakes. Unlike other Sisig, this one is different. It has the blend of vinegar, bell pepper, ginger, chili, the option of lime, and spices that I couldn't name anymore. At a very affordable price, I have tasted the fusion of an unusual treat.

Halaan Soup

This seafood soup is a combination of sweet corn, ginger, chili leaves, white onion, and clams. This has the taste of tinola with a twist. There's something in the soup that's making me crave for more. This soup is a big check to be added on my favorites.

Sili Ice Cream

This is the kind of ice cream that will make you crave for more scoops. The spicy kick of chili flavor which conflates in the sweet blend of this cold treat is paradise. I think they used coconut milk in this ice cream which is more creamy and luscious. You have the option to decide for the level of your ice cream from level 1 to the level of volcanic eruption. This dessert is the synthesis of fire and ice melting together in your mouth. If you got to visit bicol, complete your trip by tasting some of our native treats. Doing such is also learning different culture and practices. Give it a bite! Have you ever tried the local delicacies in your own native land? If you do, let me know how was it and why should I try it in the comment box below.

Atulayan Island: The Metaphor of My Total Surrender

From Crystal Clear to Green to Blue

Nothing in this world would compete in the natural verses of ecosystem. Atulayan Island is just one of those verses I have seen that totally made my soul surrender in the calmness of its breath-taking vista.

If you want to witness the perfect relationship of land, sky, and water. Spare some time visiting the pearl of my hometown - The Atulayan Island in Sagñay, Camarines Sur.

The episodes of your travel goals or island hopping should not end without having this island on your checked lists.

In between two open cottages

Atulayan Island is isolated among 18 more barangays in the Municipality of Sagñay. It lies in the coastal areas of Partido Reviera and one of the Philippines' white beach islands. It is a snail in an aerial view and a pregnant woman in a different angle. Depends on how it plays on your mind.

The Angle Where I Find Like a Pregnant Woman. (You can learn that myth too :)) - Too Bad I don't have a drone to take an Aerial View

If you're coming from Manila and using a private car, you can use Waze mobile app or click here for directions.

If you're a commuter, you can travel by air or by land.

By Air Transportation:
From NAIA to Naga Int'l Airport - then from Naga City, you can take a van (Php70.00 fare) or a bus (Php58.00 fare) going to Lagonoy and drop by Tigaon. From Tigaon, there are tricycles going to Nato Wharf for Php10.00 per head fare.

By Land Transportation:
From Cubao, take a bus going to Lagonoy and drop by Tigaon. You can also take a bus going to Naga and another bus from Naga going to Lagonoy and drop by Tigaon. From Tigaon, tricycles are available going to Nato Wharf.

From Nato Wharf, you can make an arrangement with the locals for a boat.

During our trip, we paid Php1,300.00 for a back and forth ride good for 12 pax (9 adults, 3 children). A life jacket will be given for safety. You can enjoy the view of mountains and relaxing open sea for a 30-minute ride going to the Island.

The Trip

The Arrival
The locals offer cottages from Php500.00 - Php1,000.00 for a day stay rate and from Php1,000.00 - Php1,600.00 for an overnight stay (rate varies on the cottage of your choice). They would also ask for an additional Php20.00 - Php50.00 for environmental sanitation. They maintain the cleanliness of the Island as it is an attraction to most of us and a home for the locals.

There's also a small variety store that sell junk foods, soda, homemade ice candy, and the like. Public rest rooms are available too for a minimal fee.

Some of the Open Cottages in the Island

Whenever I will be into an Island hopping, I always take that as if I am invading another dimension. I want to feel that I am far away from the stress of life and escape reality for a day.

When I was in the Island I've seen so much realizations. I was like a bird that freed itself from hunters and flew without fear and terror.

In my discernment to understand the metaphor in my mind, I want to descry the obscurity of this Island.

The water is gracefully dancing like a million crystal in the blue desert. It is designed by the Almighty to be the mirror of mountains and sky. I've heard the whisper of an angel in my ears as the breeze touched my skin. The sound of tiny waves are like music to me. The abstraction of rocks in the other side of the shore interfuse the waves and brings tranquillity and calmness in my heart.

"The nature has its own way to reveal its beauty."

Bury Me Alive: The Sand Massage
The Rocky Side of the Island
"Feel the vibration of your inner self and find out what makes you happy, then live with it your whole life."

"Find color from emptiness."

Being in this island is a total surrender for me because I let the intervention of nature in my core provide me satisfaction and wholesome joy. And yes, I have made my surrender when I got here. Will you?

Would there be any questions?

Six Reasonable Ways To Survive a Long Distance Relationship

If you think that LDR is like putting yourself back in surviving the World War II, you might be right. You plan to survive – you plan to succeed. Simple but never easy. Most of the failed LDR has issues with trust, communication, cheating, etc. But if you have long term goals with your partner, it’s not going to be as difficult as what you think it is. However, it wouldn’t be that easy too.

Here are six reasonable ways to make your transition smooth in order to survive LDR. This is based on personal experience and instinct.

1. Never ask how. If you keep on asking yourself how will you survive LDR, you are just formulating another version of burden – stress and depression. You will agonize thinking such. Instead of stressing yourself asking – accept! Accept the fact that you are in the situation and see the brighter side of the world. Optimism will help you strengthen your trust to your partner. Focus on your long term plans and do not rush things. Remember that a farmer waits a long time for a sweet harvest. Be like one instead of complaining and asking what life has done to you. You are not the only one struggling in this world. If you keep on tolerating all those struggles, you are just burying yourself alive in the wake of failure.

2. Stop your drama and engage yourself in realizing your dreams.  I understand that crying will help you release your emotions, but it wouldn’t change the reality. However, if you keep yourself busy working, schooling, or doing business, you will then be able to convert your thoughts of missing someone to the thought of achieving your goals. The more you cry, the more possibility that you might seek for someone’s comfort that will result to missing your partner even more. You might end up seeking for someone else’s compassion of making you feel better. Getting used having that comfort from someone else might give you the idea that it is better off that way – which isn’t a good thing in the long run. It might result to cheating  as well. Learn to adjust in a new setting. If you get used being with your partner, you will always got used not being with him for a long period of time. Independence is a powerful weapon in combating the battle against LDR. Learn it!

3. Do not quack, you’re not a duck! Learn to control your temper. If you keep nagging to your partner you are also keeping him away from you. So, if you want to have long lasting relationship, don’t be a quacking duck! It wouldn’t hurt talking to your partner calmly. Study found that partners who minimize nagging have a better chance of living a happy relationship (Markman, 2010). Therefore, avoiding pointless arguments, nonsense jealousies, and skeptical sentences will merit a high percentage rate of surviving LDR. On the other hand, if you keep those bitter ingredients in you, you are also burning your partner out. When a person is burned out, there is a tendency that he might leave you suspended in the air – while you are regretting knowing it’s too late. Hence, don’t let this corruptions destroy you by defending it with golden trust.

4. Give time for communication – but not all the time.  Talking to your partner over the phone (voice, video, chat, text, etc.) would lessen the amount of nostalgia in your heart. Nevertheless, don’t put it into practice. Remember you have to grow. You have to expose yourself in a new lifestyle. You’re in a long distance relationship, meaning you are venturing different goals for a better future. Therefore, consider giving each other time for those and take your time for each other as a break. An hour or two in a day is enough to let each other know that you’re still in track. Telling your partner the best thing that happened to you in a day is a good topic to start a conversation. However, never demand for time, it shouldn’t be asked, it should be given. Do not feel bad if your partner couldn’t reply to your messages. Give him the benefit of the doubt. Your suspecting instincts will ruin everything you have. Allow him to do whatever he wants to achieve the goals you always planned. Just because he couldn’t reply to your messages, you will also think he had forgotten you. It’s a big NO! NO! Relax! Do not overthink. If you are in this side of “he” with a bustling schedule, take at least a minute saying “good night honey, it has been a busy day” before you end the day. Listen with your soul. Love with your heart.

5. Add some strong spices to your recipe.  Talking to your partner is a good thing, but teasing your partner with your sexy bedroom voice is a big check to be added on your recipe. A taste of spicy food makes a person crave for more – serve one for your partner. Sexual imputation is like a helium that will make you float in the cloud nine. Your inner core needs it too not just your body’s physical sensations. This will make your bond even stronger. This is a must!

6. Be honest all the time.
"A lie has speed, but truth has endurance." -Edgar J. Mohan.
Make it your foundation and you’ll have the strongest wall in the planet that even the earth’s most dangerous phenomenon couldn’t destroy. Telling the truth should be a habit. Never daze yourself in the excuses made by white lies for it will blind you overtime. If you are telling the truth to your partner, you are also building the trust that will maintain the friction of diamond in the windows of soul. You have to be honest even if the truth might hurt your partner. If you made a mistake, tell em you did. Yet, you have to face the consequences of your action. Never ever cheat to your partner. Cheating means being dishonest. Being one, is also being the earthquake with the highest intensity that will pulverize the wall you made. If you want to keep your partner, live with that rule.
